Instagram Is About To Make Booking A Hair Appointment Way Easier

Instagram almost seems specially engineered to be the modern human's most perfect time-waster — it is, in essence, an endlessly-scrolling picture book for grown-ups, social media-savvy teenagers, and all of our incompetent parents who can’t figure out how to stop double-tapping every single photo. In the wide world of the photo-sharing platform, there’s something for everyone to love — and besides, who even needs “fresh air” or “the great outdoors” when you have troves of beauty and style inspiration, food and travel porn, and vicarious peeks into all the A-list celebrity lives you’re not living? But we hope you’re prepared to spend even more time on the app, because Bloomberg reports that Instagram is set to roll out a feature enabling users to book hair appointments, restaurant reservations, and more directly from the business’s profiles. The process will be kind of like what you already experience with Yelp or OpenTable… but with much better visuals. That means you’ll be able to click on the account of that Hollywood-favorite salon you’ve been stalking for years and book your color appointment right then and there — just like that. The new feature will be essential in giving Instagram’s more than 1 million active advertisers a better, more tangible way of measuring the impact of their accounts and strategies, says James Quarles, the app's head of business. “When someone books an appointment, that's not a ‘like’ or a ‘follow,’ that's actual action,” Quarles told Bloomberg. Users will become IRL consumers, not just social media followers — and that’s a whole new ball game for the over eight million businesses who maintain profiles on the app.The update is expected to kick off within the next couple of months, so keep an eye out. The next time you spot geode-inspired highlights you want on your head immediately, it may be little more than just a click away. How's that for convenience?Read More:How Instagram Can Help You Find The Hairstylist Of Your DreamsI Got A Pinterest Haircut — & It Did Not Go According To Plan12 Before & After Photos That Show How Important Your Hair Part IsLike what you see? Can We Talk About Ryan Reynolds' Story Line In Life?

Warning: This post contains spoilers about the first half of Life. I won't spoil the rest. Although, if you see it, you will probably guess the ending halfway through.Life, out March 24, is the year's horror-space-thriller that we all asked for (I guess?). It is about six young, attractive astronauts from around the world working together in perfect harmony aboard the International Space Shuttle. They have a very simple what-could-go-wrong mission: to see if there is life on Mars. And boy, do they find out about the life on Mars. From the moment he enters the screen, it's clear that Ryan Reynolds' character, Rory Adams, the crew's mission specialist, is going to be the comic relief in an otherwise unfunny movie. (Although there are some cinematically rich moments that feel almost campy, thus providing a bit of lightheartedness in between bloody death scenes.) Rory heroically retrieves the samples from Mars in the first scene by putting on a space suit and physically grabbing the rover that collected them before it passes the ship, saving the entire mission (which ironically sets up some of the characters to die). The sample, which turns out to be some kind of microorganism, is groomed and pampered by one of the scientists and even given the name Calvin. At first, it's like a cute little blob — a first cousin of the adorable Flubber. Then, about 20 minutes into the film, it kills Reynolds.Yes, Reynolds dies not even halfway through the film — and his death is fucking gross. It's gory, disgusting, long, and brutal to watch. It made me nauseous. But more so than being queasy — at the sight of the now-evil Flubber entering Reynolds' mouth, then visibly sliding down his throat into his stomach, Alien -style, while crunching and destroying his insides — I was pissed that he was ALREADY DEAD. This is some false advertising. I don't want to see Rebecca Ferguson, as microbiologist Miranda North, until the last minutes of the film. I don't want to sit through an hour's worth of closeups on a moody and sickly Jake Gyllenhaal as David Jordan, who has been in space for 437 days! I want Reynolds and his scruff and his humor to carry me through this sci-fi film about an alien organism with no body and no brain, destroying all of life on Earth by blobbing people to death and feeding off our insides.Reynolds is featured in every promo, has attended every press event, and even appears as one of the three faces on movie poster. The only other time we see him is at the tail end of the film, when another astronaut is trying to escape Calvin and stumbles upon Reynolds' lifeless, bloodied body wrapped in foil. I felt very cheated by this. I'm sorry to be the one to break it to you, but the biggest twist in Life is that Ryan Reynolds loses his when there's still two hours to go.[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cuA-xqBw4jE]Like what you see? Getting Cancer Might Partly Be A Matter Of “Bad Luck”

Put on your sunscreen, don't microwave plastic, don't eat processed meats, exercise more, stop gaining weight. These are just a few of the many, many things we've been told to do to avoid getting cancer. While there may be research backing some of these suggestions up, (a.k.a., please actually do wear sunscreen) new research finds that getting cancer might be at least partially just a matter of bad luck.Researchers estimate that 66% of the genetic mutations that become cancer develop that way by random chance. They also estimate that 29% are from environmental factors (such as not wearing sunscreen) and 5% are inherited. This isn't the first time researchers have suggested that we might have little control over whether or not we get cancer. In a previous study, scientists Cristian Tomasetti and Dr. Bert Vogelstein said that cancer risk is more about random DNA error than what precautionary measures a person does or does not take."Every time a perfectly normal cell divides, as you all know, it makes several mistakes -- mutations," Vogelstein said, according to CNN. "Now most of the time, these mutations don't do any harm. They occur in junk DNA, genes unrelated to cancer." But sometimes they happen in a gene that is related to cancer."That's bad luck," said Vogelstein, according to CNN.It's not the most uplifting news, and we're sorry to say that there's nothing you can do about it. You can't control random gene mutations. What you can control (at least some of), though, is the 29% of mutations that happen because of environmental factors. Slather yourself with sunscreen, folks, get breast exams, and make sure to check in with your doctor.Like what you see? We Totally Get Why These Adult Hand Pies Are Described As “Pockets Of Joy”

What's on my desk this week? Megpies. Meg what? No not the crow-like bird, but a tasty hand pie that reminds us of a Pop-Tart. You may have already stumbled across these treats at your local Starbucks, as the coffee company started shelling them out nearly nationwide. But until recently, I hadn't had the pleasure of meeting, greeting, and biting into one of these nostalgia-inducing sweet snacks.I decided to dive in with Strawberry, as that was my OG Pop-Tart flavor of choice. And upon first glance at the packaging, I was sold; clear cellophane framing the square pie, letting its pretty pink icing peep through, and a crisp flourish of white and fuchsia branding to top it all off. Definitely more sophisticated than my previous vending machine varieties. Once I was able to tear the thing open (it took a few tries, that cellophane was sturdy), the smell was distinctly Pop-Tart-ish — although the coloring was much more natural and the weight much denser than I remembered the pre-packaged hand pie of my childhood days to be. After breaking it down the middle, the center contained an ample layer of jammy fruit filling. The first bite was magical; the crust was buttery and flaky without being crumbling, the icing was a nice smooth layer of sweetness, and the filling was jammy without being overpowering. The ratios were altogether pie-like, and the Food Team unanimously agreed that this Megpie tasted like a true strawberry pie in hand pie form. It was a childhood treat turned adult artisan sweet snacking success. If you're a sugar for breakfast type of person, we'd recommend one of these hefty squares as an easy (fairly crumb free) grab-n-go option for morning commutes. But if you prefer your kick for later in the day, then you might want to check out our pro tip below*. In addition to the salacious strawberry, there are four other flavor options currently available: chocolate, cinnamon brown sugar, blueberry, and mixed fruit. You can scoop up your favorites at various Whole Foods' locations in addition to Sbux for $3.95 a pie.*Pro Tip: Put in the microwave, oven, or toaster for a quick minute or two for a hot hand pie — scoop of vanilla ice cream optional but encouraged.Welcome to Snack On This! The Lip Plumper We All Should Have Been Using During The Kylie Lip Challenge

Remember the Kylie Lip Challenge? Of course you do. Two years ago, the world was obsessed with full lips — which happened to blow up right around the time Kylie Jenner emerged with a plumper set of her own. Before she launched her first Lip Kit, all Jenner fans were left to do was research lip fillers, over-line, and swipe on an array of tingling glosses. Then, people came up with the seriously dangerous idea of sucking on a drinking cup to score the plumping effect from the suction. After plenty of injuries, that part of our lives is thankfully over. But PMD Beauty is giving the old trend a fresh (and much safer) spin with its Kiss Lip Plumping System. The latest invention, which will be available in April, is just as it sounds: It uses vacuum technology to create a fuller lip look. The device is sized to fit comfortably in the palm of your hand, with a tiny pink suction cup at the top that resembles a small fish. And while it may or may not have looked — and sounded! — liked a vibrator, I decided to take it for a spin at work. If you know me, you know I had a gross obsession with making my lips bigger over a year ago. Today, it began again thanks to @pmdbeauty 👄 but don't try this at work — it sounds like a vibrator. A post shared by Sam Sasso (@samsasso) on Mar 24, 2017 at 7:40am PDT //platform.instagram.com/en_US/embeds.jsThe power button activates the suctioning device, which kicks on a pulsing sensation. According to the instructions, one click delivers a “quick plump," while a second offers a lower speed for a more intense, targeted plump. Needless to say the entire process reignited my lip craze.  Before I started, I applied the thick, tingling serum that comes along with the package. Then, I placed the Kiss gadget on four different sections of my lips (upper left, upper right, lower left, lower right). The instructions say to allow the Kiss to pulse 10 times on each side, but that wasn’t getting me anywhere close to where I needed my lips to be. After 30 pulses, however , I got just the effect I was looking for. The end result was inflamed, swollen, and minimally fuller lips — just enough to see the difference, without the discomfort that often comes with injections.Normally, my lips are ever-so-slightly lopsided. The vacuum session evened out both sides to the point where I noticed immediately (even if my coworkers didn't). So, while the effect only lasted about an hour, I'd say that having two fluffy marshmallows attached to my face for a full 60 minutes makes it a win in my book.Read These Stories Next:This Woman Took A Bath Wearing Coconut Oil — & It Went Horribly WrongSo You Want To Shave Your Vagina...You Can Get Amazing Skin By Doing THIS In The BedroomLike what you see? We Compared Aldi & Trader Joe's Prices To See Which Store Is Cheaper

By now, you've probably come across one or more of our many heartfelt odes to Trader Joe's. The nationwide grocery chain is a bargain shopper's dream — a dream that has been damn tough to displace by any of its competitors (do they really have any?) It's safe to say that for us, TJ's has been a long time OG savage in the food savings game; a king among pawns. That is, until we discovered Aldi — an equally cutthroat seller of steals in edible goods. And contrary to what many people believe, these two stores are NOT owned by the same parent company. According to Slate, what began as a unified grocery chain was later split into the two separate companies by former business partners and brothers, Karl and Theo Albrecht. Thus Aldi and TJ's — true cheap eats champions and competitors — were born. The major differences between the two stores? Well, Aldi encourages customers to bring their own bags (and will charge a fee for those who don't). Aldi also charges a refunded quarter for shopping cart use (full list of details here on why). And unlike TJ's, who carries both exclusive as well as discounted name-brand products, Aldi strictly carries brand exclusive items. And now to the most important question at hand: how do the prices compare? To answer this, we've rounded up 23 swappable products, ranging from prepackaged snacks to produce, that can be found on the shelves at both grocery chains. Click on to see how the products stack up, and which of the chains ends up with a cheaper overall grocery list. Despite the fact that each product only differed by a dollar or so, it starts to add up when you're doing a bigger grocery shop. Although, it might be argued that it's slightly more of a hassle to shop at Aldi given the bring-your-own bag and rentable shopping cart situation. That said, Aldi's nut and cheese prices were far superior to TJ's (leading to greater savings in the end). So, if you're looking to stock up in the proteins and dairy departments, Aldi's reigns supreme. But we'll still be sticking to calling TJ's the king of comfort. Plus, there are some a few Trader Joe's brand exclusive we just couldn't image giving up.Like what you see? Julianne Hough Wants Selena Gomez To Help Her With Her Wedding Music

Julianne Hough is going to great lengths to hire her favorite musician to play at her upcoming wedding to NHL star Brooks Laich — and it involves Selena Gomez. Here's the thing: It's not Gomez who the bride-to-be wants to book. It's her recent collaborator, DJ Kygo. Gomez worked with the Norwegian DJ and house music producer on his new single "It Ain't Me," which he dropped in February.Kygo, whose other hits include "Firestone" and "Stay," also happens to be Hough's top pick for her wedding reception. The Dancing with the Stars champ told Entertainment Tonight that Gomez might be her inside track."I’m going to pull out all the favors," the 28-year-old dancer and actress said, adding that she planned to ask Gomez to "pull some strings."Are they even friends? Doesn't Kygo have an agent she can call? And didn't Hough used to have a country music singing career? We're surprised she's not going the Nashville route.Hough, who got engaged to Laich in August 2015 after about a year of dating, told ET that she wants her wedding guests to be in full-on party mode."There’s going to be a lot of dancing," she teased. "There’s [going to be] no speeches. We’re just gonna dance from like, 10 to 10."Though she recently celebrated her bachelorette party with pals like Nina Dobrev, Cindy Crawford, and Kris Jenner, Hough's actual wedding still seems pretty far off. She admitted she still hasn't found a wedding dress."Fortunately, we still have some time," she said. "So we’re good."She added that she and Laich are " just excited to get married and and have all of our closest friends with us on that day." If DJ Kygo happens to be soundtracking Derek Hough's inevitable wedding reception dance medley, all the better.Like what you see? The Hills' Jason Wahler Celebrated His Sobriety By Posting His Old DUI Mugshot

Here's a before-and-after you won't soon forget.Jason Wahler, former star of Laguna Beach and The Hills, celebrated his sobriety yesterday by sharing an old mugshot alongside a current, much more joyful photo of himself on Instagram. Before and After! A post shared by Jason Wahler (@jasonwahler) on Mar 23, 2017 at 11:58am PDT //platform.instagram.com/en_US/embeds.jsLauren Conrad's famous ex is holding a water bottle in the "after" shot. The post, which promotes the work of the National Addiction Foundation, also features the quote, "You will never know how good it all is until you get sober."The 30-year-old former reality star's new lifestyle would appear to be a testament to that. Wahler married hairdresser Ashley Slack in 2013, and the couple are now expecting their first child, a baby girl. That's a stark contrast to just a few years ago, when he was struggling with alcoholism, which he has blamed for ruining his relationship with Conrad. Wahler, who appeared on C elebrity Rehab With Dr. Drew in 2010, was also arrested on drinking-related charges, including a DUI and taking part in a drunken brawl, at least six times."I became a totally different person active in my addiction versus when I'm sober and living life in recovery," he told Entertainment Tonight last May. "It's a totally different mentality and thought process. The way my brain operates, it's completely different."He also revealed that his addiction, which included cocaine use, left him wanting to end his life."My addiction drove me to suicide," he shared. "Not contemplation — actually attempting suicide — and somebody found me and that's why I'm still here today. I'm very grateful for that."How that all kind of lined up, obviously, somebody up above wanted me here for a reason and I'm very happy that I did not check out," he added. "It's crazy to look at where things are. I never would have guessed six years ago, I would be working in recovery, substance abuse, and mental health, considering I was paid to party. That was the last thing I thought was going to happen."Like what you see? Kristen Bell & Dax Shepard Had A Hilarious Date Night At Hamilton

What's more entertaining: Watching Hamilton, or watching Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard watch Hamilton? (Okay, it's obviously the first one, but, seriously, we love these guys. Never break up.)The hilarious couple went to see Lin-Manuel Miranda's Broadway hit on a special date night this week, and, true to form, they documented it all. Also true to form: Bell cried, while Shepard cracked jokes.Bell's excitement was palpable as she shared a quick video of them waiting for the Tony-winning musical to start."We're here at the Richard Rodgers Theatre, in our seats," the Frozen star told fans. "I've got chocolate-covered blueberries and the cutest man in town.""Where, where?" Shepard joked as he munched on chocolate. "Brad Pitt's here?" Mommy and Daddy's night out!!!! #hamilton the musical is gonna bring the party! My excitement cannot be contained and full disclosure I cried during the opening number. Glad you asked. Here's an intermission review from @daxshepard- who, hates all musicals and loved this one. I was moved to tears 5 different times. My ❤️ was singing the whole time.
