Dolly Parton will never turn down a bit of sparkle, and that seemed especially true at the 53rd annual Country Music Awards last night in Nashville. Parton changed five times over the course of the proceedings. She started off the night in a plunging Jackson Lowell cream-colored cocktail dress overlaid with some elaborate black beading fashioned into the silhouette of a harness. The other looks were custom costumes that she cooked up with her creative director of 29 years, Steve Summers. “I always joke that I never leave a rhinestone unturned,” Parton says. “I have to have sparkles on my clothes. It makes me feel vibrant. Shoot… even my pajamas have rhinestones on them!”
In addition to performing a medley of faith-based songs later on in the show in a fringed white gown, Parton also acted as a special guest host alongside Reba McEntire (Carrie Underwood hosted the event as well). “Everyone needs a little more light and love and that’s what I wanted the performance to be,” Parton says. “I love sharing these beautiful, uplifting songs with the world!” Follow Parton as she gets ready for country music’s biggest night below—it’s even glitzier than you’d imagine.
