Remember when Trump went viral a while back for those dumb photos he took in that 18-wheeler semi?
As Seth Meyers points out in the Late Night segment above, the president has made the truck driving industry a big part of his campaign strategy — but after several years in office, has he actually made drivers’ lives any better?
The answer, it would appear, is a solid no.
The reality for many, as shown in this MSNBC interview, is that long-haul drivers are now paying more in tax. And Trump’s trade wars are also impacting the industry’s revenues by reducing the number of goods that need to be transported.
“So thanks to Trump’s policies, truckers are forced to work more, for less pay in potentially harmful conditions, and his ongoing trade wars could put thousands of truck drivers out of work entirely,” Meyers concludes.
“So the best we can hope for is that truckers return the favour in 2020.”
