TL;DR: Learn the basics of guitar with the Jamstik® Guitar Trainer for $199, a 13% savings as of Sept. 15.
The Jamstik is a guitar training system that allows beginners to get started on the instrument without the hassle of in-person lessons. It looks vaguely like a Guitar Hero controller, but instead of just making clicking noises, you can actually learn to play on it.
To play, you’ll place your fingers on the Jamstik’s frets and strum — just like you would on a real six-string — while instruction plays in real time on your device. (The Jamstik supports both iOS and Android.) You’ll also be able to view your fingers on the screen: That way, if something doesn’t sound quite right, you can figure out the problem fast.
You can also use the companion app to see your progress, discover your areas of weakness, and keep track of how much you’ve practiced.
Here’s a quick overview:
The newest version of the Jamstik has an updated tactile d-pad, matte finish, and spring-loaded, high-quality custom guitar nickel steel strings for a more realistic feel. And since it’s just over 18 inches long, you can toss it in your backpack and practice practically anywhere you want. With a pair of headphones, you can even learn at your desk or on a bench at the park.
Of course, you’ll eventually have to pick up a real guitar — this is definitely not a one-to-one substitute. But the Jamstik is a great training tool to get you started on your picking journey.
The Jamstik regularly costs $229, but you can slash the price down to only $199 for a limited time.
