TL;DR: Walmart is offering rollbacks on tons of toys ahead of the holidays — save up to 20% on top toys for 2019 like Paw Patrol sets, Marvel gear, and the Barbie DreamCamper.
Kids might just be one of the hardest gifting categories.
Unlike your parents’ childhood, when parents could just cop the humble train set or doll in the window at the toy store (or there’s always that one kid who wants a BB gun), modern-day toys have created fandoms — very specific fandoms. That doll better be an LOL Surprise! doll, and that train better have Paw Patrol on it.
Instead of waiting until the last minute (and risking some items selling out), Walmart has already rolled back the prices on a ton of toys — most of which are on the “top toys of 2019” lists for Walmart, Amazon, or Target. The deals should be similar (if not better) than Black Friday, and any differences will only be a few dollars.
We’ve diced up some categories and the most-talked-about toys in them, but you can find the full list of the October toy rollbacks here.
Nurturing toys (i.e. baby dolls) date all the way back to the 21st century BC. Along the way, they’ve evolved to dolls that can open and close their eyes or talk to you. This year, interactive baby animals (very colorful ones, at that) and fashion dolls are the baby they’ll want to drag everywhere.
Opening presents is a thrill in itself, but an extra dose of butterflies comes when there’s an unknown collectible inside. Kids are loving unboxing toys like LOL Surprise!, Poopsie Slime Surprise, and pretty much every other collectible series with “surprise” in the name.
What Walmart likes to call “Famous Friends” is the section of toys sporting their favorite TV and movie characters. At no surprise to anyone, Paw Patrol, Harry Potter, and Disney, and Marvel are among the hot commodities this year.
Aspirational play never goes out of style. Whether it’s Barbie, Legos, or an Easy-Bake oven, kids will forever love funneling their creativity into “when I grown up” scenarios.
