There’s a new Star Wars series coming to Disney+ — but it isn’t a new narrative set in a galaxy far far away.
Star Wars: Jedi Temple Challenge, announced Tuesday, is a new game show for kids that sounds like a fun, Star Wars take on classic kids game shows like Nick Arcade and Legends of the Hidden Temple. The show is coming sometime in 2020.
According to the announcement of Jedi Temple Challenge, the show will test kids on various Jedi skills, including their abilities and knowledge with lightsabers, hyperspace, the Force, and even the dark side. While the details are still sparse, it sounds like there could be some obstacle courses and quizzes in store for lucky Padawans who make it on the show.
In the announcement, Mickey Capoferri, Lucasfilm’s senior director of online content and programming, said Jedi Temple Challenge is a kids game show like no other.
“The various challenges will test a Padawan’s connection to the Force in three locations — a forest planet, on board a Jedi star cruiser, and inside a Jedi temple — immersing them and the audience in a fun, humorous, and exciting competition,” Capoferri said.
One exciting detail we do know is that the show will be hosted by none other than Ahmed Best, the enigmatic actor and performer behind the character Jar Jar Binks. He’ll be joined on the show by comedy powerhouse Mary Holland, who will be voicing a humanoid droid.
Hopefully the younglings don’t have any run-ins with Sith in the making.
